Fontographer on winxp not running: why?

Hi, I’ve got myself an old version of (R.I.P.) Macromedia’s Fontographer 4.1, installed it and tried to run it on my notebook, and old Compaq Presario v3000, with 2gb RAM and like 20gb free HD. but, in the first run, the software says “not enough memory” and does not run… what could be the reason for that error message? would there be a way to sort the problem?
