Why do young girls go on social networking sites and lie about who they are, how old they are, etc?

I personally believe that is because they’re insecure about who they truly are, and when they’re on a social media site, they can choose the kind of persona they want to reveal to others. As a result, they lie about who they are and create a personality that is someone they’d rather be other than themselves.
