Why would an auto insurance appraiser take pics of a house?

A friend was recently in an auto accident, apparently the other driver has a shady insurance company.

Today there was someone in his front yard, who claimed to be from a ‘private company’ hired by the insurance company and was just appraising the damage to his vehicle, but he was also taking pictures of his house. Why would this guy be taking photos of the house (the guy said it was “because its a nice house”.) Which doesn’t really fly. Any of you jellies know why?
