Any medical-type jellies- can you tell me about this bruising?

So, I slipped and fell just under a week ago. I scraped/whacked my forearm pretty good, and got a humungous bruise; the skin was not broken. A day or two later, I realized I was getting phlebitis because of it. Now I have bruising in many interesting colors all the way up my arm, along the affected vein. I’ve had phlebitis before, but always from a blood draw, and never with all this bruising. Is this normal? Did the vein get, I don’t know, ‘leaky’? And what, if anything, should I do?
