What is taking the judge so long?

Last Wednesday and Thursday I accompanied my son to court. He is in a custody battle with his daughter’s mother. We had hoped to finish up Thursday morning, but our last witness couldn’t come in until 1:30.
After that the judge said, “Well, if we had been able to finish up this morning I might have been able to make my ruling this afternoon, but that won’t happe now.”
That left us thinking we’d know the next day, on Friday. But we heard nothing on Friday.
Went through the weekend, nerves on end…
Nothing on Monday. It’s now almost noon on Tuesday, still no word.

Anyone have any idea what might be happening here? I’m about to go insane, not to mention my son!
