Geriatric security guards, how much security can they really provide?

Around town here there are several locations that have supposed security guards. However, these security guards look more like grandmas and grandpas that should be sitting at home and not in a position that could get them hurt should some funk jump off. They don’t have guns, no clubs, no cuffs, most just have a uniform with a patch; I even seen one of them manning his post with HIS CANE. On a night like Halloween when many act stupid, set things on fire, break windows etc, what can any of these 65+ unarmed security guards do but call the real cops (if they even get the opportunity) and hope they show up before the perpetrator(s) escape?
