What is it like to own a microbus?

I was looking at some pictures of the mini vans from Volkswagen and I was just thinking out of the box. I think it would be pretty cool to own one of those vans for personal use. Is it harder to maintain than other vehicles? Is it better than a car or pickup? Do any of you guys own one or have owned one? If yes, what was it like?
