Can you help me find this quote?

I am fairly certain it is in Chuck Palahniuk’s book Stranger Than Fiction. However I don’t own a copy and after a few Google queries I am turning to the collective.

Obviously I don’t remember the quote in it’s entirety and what I do recall is not verbatim. The gist was that storytellers/artists invent/create new ideas or possibilities and than the world copies them. I believe he used Columbine and the September 11th tragedies as an example. Though I can’t remember what stories were the precursor to it.

Anyway I was watching V for Vendetta again, I thought it was appropriate. And a quote: In reference to V’s art collection.
Of course not. You grew up in
their world. Art is created by
individuals and there are no
individuals in a world where you
are told what to think.
Dietrich also touched on the idea as to his art collection and even Valerie in her biography mentioned the impact art had on her life. So it was a recurrent theme, kicked off by the initial bomb and firework concert display. The significance and symbolism of the roses. The dance between Evey and V before the kick off of the revolution. The idea’s don’t bleed or die between Creedy and V.. etc.

However, ironically I place the Occupy movement kicking off shortly after the movie was released. Maybe my timing is incorrect but it triggered the memory of the quote and I would like to recall exactly. Even if I admit that current events seem to trigger art as much or more so then art spawning events.
