Why will my dogs go in the lake and swim with no hesitation, but won't go into the baby pool in the back yard when it has water in it?

It’s hot out there! They’re inside most of the time, but the times they are outside I’d think they’d enjoy getting in the pool, but they won’t have a thing to do with it.
Why is that?
Also, I had a friend who had a dog who would lay in the shallows at the lake when it was hot, so he stayed constantly cool, but my dogs don’t do that. They’re either immersed in the lake, or they’re completely out of the water.
They’re smart…why haven’t they figured this out?
