Russian jet crash~ Was it the Malaysian or the Anti-Russian groups in fighting in the Eastern block?

The firing of missiles by the Pro-Russian forces brought downed a Malaysian commercial airliner full of passengers, earlier this year. The plane was not within restricted airspace at the time of the crash. All were killed.
This weekend, a commercial Russian Airliner also crashed, this time in the Siani area of Egypt. This place is essentually an unpopulated flat sandy plane. All were killed.
Early on, the Russians attached to the airline, stated that the plane went down due to mechanical problems in the older plane. (the pilot’s wife was quoted as saying she had received a contact from him before the flight departed, complaining about the known mechanical problems which he felt jeopardized the aircraft’s safety.)
Next, with the arrival of Russian governmental investigators, the mechanical failure crash changed to there being an explosion which had occurred within the plane. Now today, Russian officials have said that after ongoing preliminary investigations, the plane was ‘taken down by an external source’. Stopping just short of stating that the jetliner was purposely shot down by either a missile or other deadly means.
Do you believe the Russian passenger jet was shot down as part of retaliatory measures for the fatal firing upon the Malaysian jetliner earlier, or was this crash due to mechanical problems as stated early on?
