How to find and delete duplicate files on a PC running Windows 7?

I am looking for software that will identify duplicate files and their locations so I can either keep as backups or delete. Some of the files are backedup on an external hard drive. Since this will be a one-time use (I hope), I do not want to spend much money; free would be nice.
