Can wearing "readers" hurt more than they help ?

Asked by cookieman (41617points) March 2nd, 2016 from iPhone

I spend a lot of time in front of a computer. Have been for over fifteen years. Recently, I’ve been suffering from eye strain headaches more quickly and more frequently than usual.

I went for an eye exam last week, and my Opthomologist said my vision is 20/20, no signs of neuropathy (I’m a diabetic) or any other eye ailments.

She suggested I try wearing low magnification (1.25) reading glasses when on the computer.

I bought a pair and there is definitely a clarity improvement. Problem is, after only an hour of use, I developed that same eye strain headache — only much worse. I still have it today, the next day.

This is my first time ever wearing any kind of glasses. I don’t even wear sunglasses.

Does this seem normal? Do I need to get used to them? What have your experiences been?
