What is the best way to get your security deposit back after moving?

I recently moved and the managment at my old apartment complex is keeping most of my deposit citing that the apartment wasn’t properly cleaned. I thoroughly cleaned (twice!) to avoid this issue but they’re citing this regardless. I failed to take pictures unfortunately. Any advice?
