How can a search engine know exactly what you want to look for before completely finishing the query?

I started to type something into Google and several choices popped up and one of them was what I was looking for. I hadn’t finished typing in my search yet.
I had never looked this up before so I was curious how did it know what I was looking for? Is it based on my previous searches about other unrelated items?
