How do I get rid of a repetitive McAfee ad solicitation on my new computer?

I recently purchased a new laptop that came with 6 months of Webroot security. I am being slogged by McAfee ads to download and/or restart my computer for the McAfee updates. I am unable to disable these damn ads, any geek squad types able to help this tech challenged lady?
