Do you have a cookie jar?

Asked by wilma (16457points) March 6th, 2017

My son brought his new girlfriend home from college for a visit. Apparently she was a little surprised that we had a cookie jar on the kitchen counter, with cookies in it. She thought that was quaint, and sweet, and didn’t realize that people actually used, or still used cookie jars. She said, “I didn’t realize that that was really a thing people did ”.
Growing up, most of the kitchens I visited had a cookie jar on the counter. Now, I’m not so sure that is the case.

A bit of background on us, we live in the upper mid-west of the US. The girlfriend is first generation American born, and her parents are originally from Taiwan.
So is this a cultural difference? A regional difference? A thing of the past? Or maybe her parents like clear kitchen counters, and everything stored in cupboards?
What do you think?
