Why are there fingerprints on mirrors?

Why do people feel the need to touch mirrors?

I am not talking about little kids fingerprints, they touch everything in the process of learning. I am talking about almost full grown teen and adult fingerprints.

You have seen it in public restrooms and probably cleaned them off of mirrors in your own house. What possible reason can there be to touch the mirror?
