Did you know about the (brief) involvement of Portugal in the US Civil War?

I read somewhere that two Union Warships pursued a Confederate Blockade Runner into a harbor in Portugal. The Portuguese fort fired a few rounds of their canons at the vessels and they backed off out of range, to await the Confederate ships departure.
