How bad is the crime rate in Orlando, Florida?

I know I can google it, but I want first hand accounts if I can get them.

One of my long lost motherless boys was recently released from jail. He’s trying desperately to get out of The Life, the one with drugs and crime.
He told me he’s going to move from Illinois to Orlando, Florida to live with his sister (who was an awesome girl when I knew her as a child.)
I’m just not sure that’s the right move, not that I have any say in the matter.

Also, are there any help groups that helps people like this learn to recognize and avoid the bad situations, and get their lives back on track?
