Why do some people find public displays of body functions funny, and others find it very distasteful?

My DIL recently did an assignment for her sociology class that required her to do something in public that would be considered rude, or weird, and make note of people’s reactions. She chose to burp very loudly at a crowded IHOP. it made her uncomfortable, but she did it.
Most reacted with disgust but some laughed, and one guy even said, “Man, I wish my girlfriend could burp like that!”
Reactions like ^^^ that just leave me shaking my head in disbelief. I don’t understand it.
We have an female acquaintance who is almost 40, who makes it a point of burping REALLY loudly at least once during visits. Then she giggles. No, she doesn’t have a medical issue. She does it on purpose. She thinks it’s funny.
Why would she, or anyone, think this was funny?
