Why do ALL cats not spend ANY money (of their OWN) on the food they eat?

I’ve noticed this when I used to have cats myself (R.I.P. ALL of you);
When it came down to it, it was always me or my partner that had to open the wallet.
Why is it that not ONE cat EVER pays for their food?
