How does the Chrome browser get updated?

I am being forced to abandon the Internet Explorer browser because many sites that I visit no longer support it, so it tends to freeze up a lot. And it’s slow.
I have also been using Chrome for some time, and I’m going to move everything over to Chrome.
Now, I remember that when Microsoft was supporting IE, I would be notified of updates from time to time. Same for Firefox. Then I’d have to go through the process of installing the latest version, just like the newest iOS on my phone.
But I’ve never heard of updating Chrome. Does it happen automagically?
