Do copyright laws protect professional photos from being altered?

Asked by ItalianPrincess1217 (11979points) August 17th, 2018

It’s happened several times. I spend hours in post production trying to perfect client’s photos only to later find some on social media with awful Instagram filters slapped on them. It makes me cringe. It’s not just my ego that’s hurt but I also consider the fact that it could be hurting future business. Potential clients are seeing these butchered photos and they assume I’m the one behind the terrible editing style.

So what is a photographer to do? Are photos protected under copyright? It’s in my contract that they’re copyrighted and client’s rights are limited to sharing with friends and family. I don’t want to anger clients by calling them out on altering the photos but I also don’t want people thinking I’m the one who created that monstrosity.
