Have you seen the Netflix Docu-series, "The Confession Killer"? (Possible NSFW)

Or even heard of Henry Lee Lucas?

I’ll summarize the wiki:
~He first murdered his mother in 1960, and was released from prison in 1970

~In 1971, he was arrested for attempting to kidnap three girls, got released (and married) in 1975, and later divorced after being accused of abusing his stepdaughter

~In 1982, He confessed to the murder of 2 people, lead police to their bodies, and was arrested

~In 1983, after being transferred to jail in Williamson County, Texas, he claimed he was being abused by LE. He then confessed to a bunch of murders. About 28. This was enough for the police to form a “Lucas Task Force” dedicated to investigating the crimes he confessed to. The Task Force ended up “clearing” over 200+ crimes based on Lucas’ confessions.

~It was later discovered that he was allowed to read case files, walk around the police station, and other ‘perks’. He also knew security codes and such.

~He would read the body language of the detective and alter his story to fit whatever crime he was confessing to.

~He was discredited by reporters, and later identification of victims plus DNA evidence disproved some of his stories.

~His number of “victims” went from 60, to 100, to 3,000. (The police accepted 100, but didn’t believe the 3,000)

I think this is insane. Someone was allowed to walk around a station like that, get access to all these files, and the police just kind of accepted it and wrote off the murders. I can’t imagine how much damage that has done and how many victims families are out their thinking the wrong person killed their family member. It’s really sad and just lazy work on behalf of the police.

If any of you have seen it or know of him, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Some people still believe he is responsible for a lot more murders.
