What's wrong with these bananas?

Asked by Yellowdog (12216points) April 22nd, 2020

About five days ago, I bought some very green, organic bananas, like I’ve done many times. Green ones were all that were available, in these days of hording and stripping the shelves bare during the Covid-19 scares.

A couple of days later, when they were all the bananas that I had left, these green bananas were still too green, so I got some more (near yellow) at the grocers. Now they’re gone, and the original bananas are still too green, and its time to buy more.

I was beginning to wonder if maybe these green ones were some other kind of banana, since they were still green after four or five days. So I tried peeling it. The stem had to be cut with strong scissors, but peeling it was the worst—the peeling all the way through the inside were more like wet bamboo (or at best, sugar cane, for those familiar with it).

Will these ever ripen, or should I just throw them out?
