What should I do with the ticket money?

For my Boyfriends birthday I bought him and his dad tickets to a game but now that it’s been cancled the money has been refunded to me. Its about $800 each. Do I set it aside and buy something else for them, or do I send them the cash.Not sure if its rude to send cash like that but I don’t feel right keeping what was supposed to be “their gift”
