How many people's minds have you changed on political issues in the past few years?
I sometimes reflect on how many people I have managed to walk to a common ground by listening and connecting, including several former Trump supporters.
When I see people repeatedly sharing the same content on social media or aggressively telling people how bad or stupid or selfish they are for believing the things they believe, I can’t help but feel like it isn’t productive. Even when I fully agree with what’s being said, my desire is to further distance myself from that, not move toward it, so I know it’s a lot worse if I don’t agree (or am unsure) in the first place.
Has it worked for you? Can you think of the number of people whose minds you’ve changed over the past 4 years to a more common ground or even entirely to share your opinion? When we are acting as a voice from a position of privilege, do we have a responsibility to compartmentalize our own anger?
