Have you any ideas as to what I could use on paintbrush handles to afford a better grip?

I’d like to alter of the handles of my paintbrushes (many) so I can grip them easier.
I need to make a small section of them wider, close to the ferrule & no larger than a ½” dia and about 2” long.
Some of the smaller brush handles are around 1/8” dia.
I rather not use something absorbent like a sponge.
Any suggestions?
