I set my Kobo to factory reset and now it doesn't log on to the internet, did I break it?

I went to the website and it logged on from my desktop computer with all the free books that I downloaded.
My best guess is that it isn’t supported any more.
I paid $50 four years ago during an Amazon special sale. Should I toss it in the trash? The library doesn’t want it. I never paid for any books and the pages turned to slow.
My Kobo e-reader is 2014.
