Does anyone besides me wonder if the seeming rivalry between GOP camps is just a ploy to get more donations for both sides?

“Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) privately boasted on Wednesday that the GOP’s Senate Leadership Fund had outraised former President Trump’s super PAC in 2020, The New York Times reported, amid the former president’s targeting of Republican fundraising efforts.”

I’ve seen this work in another setting: divide the room in half and get the halves to compete in a bidding war. Who makes out? The entity that’s collecting from both sides. That’s fine if it’s a game for a charity. But if people are getting conned, and in the end there’s really only one beneficiary—is that going to be fine with the donors?

And will they ever, ever wise up?
