What is your experience with tooth extractions?

I had a quarter of my biggest molar crack off a week ago. I developed a tongue ulcer from it. Yesterday I had the damn thing pulled as there was no hope of saving it. I have been in more pain than i have ever felt in my life. My dentist prescribed me Tylenol 3 with Codeine. My mouth still feels like it is on fire half the time. I think a lot of that is from the tongue ulcer. I know I could call my dentist but it’s hard to talk. I’m looking for stories of similar things and how long the pain lasted and what you did. Please help!
