How can I tell if someone has unfriended me on Facebook?

I know we were friends. Now I don’t see myself on their friends list. But I still see them on mine. Can this go one-way?

I’m not a FB adept, don’t use it much and don’t know my way around. But I thought I got the friends business and now I’m not so sure.
