Does this in any way count as cultural appropriation (and maybe racism) or am I overthinking this?

Okay, I have a 12 year old OC and he addresses his parents as “mami” and “papi”. The thing is he’s Japanese and he has tan skin (his other friend, who is also Japanese and a character of mine, has tan skin as well but in a lighter shade. And I am fully aware that Japanese people in real life come in different skin tones as well, not just light). I kept rethinking this over and over that this whole thing might be cultural appropriation or (somehow) racist, which is not the case at all. I just wanted this character to call his parents by this term of endearment because I wanted to switch up from the old “mom’ and “dad” nicknames. That, and I think it’s cute. Also, I’m wondering if in real life it’s okay if one is to address his/her parents as “mami” and “papi” as terms of endearment even though they’re not Mexican, Hispanic, and/or Latin. Please if anyone knows, I would really appreciate it! Also, I apologize IF I somehow in anyway offended anyone by this question. Thank you! :)
