Celebrating someone's birthday when they're on the street?

Asked by kneesox (4593points) September 11th, 2022

What’s an appropriate and respectful way to celebrate someon’s birthday when they’re homeless?

And what do you think would be insensitive?

What if they can’t clean up well enough to go to a decent resturant?

Should a gift be in line with needs, making it like a charity event, or wants, like when the needs are so obvious that anything for pleasure is almost insulting?

Seems like it’s very hard to be sensitive about it. Painful contrasts with a happier past vs acting like their birthday doesn’t count for anything now.

How do you say happy birthday to a homeless person?
