Are churches for helping others, like the poor, or for worshipping God?

Or socializing? Or All three?

Just wondering because I got some really bad advice 20 years ago, and I was wondering how he became a priest?

I was being bullied at work and I told the priest, and he advised me to murder my co-worker.

Of course I did not do it.
