If earth's gravity were to suddenly increase to like 2g, how long would it take for people to adapt to it?

First of all I wanna say, for this question’s sake let’s keep all the laws of physics away.

Hypothetically speaking, if one day you wake up to find earth’s gravity to be double, how long you think It will take people to adapt to it and live normal life again? Assuming all other things(same atmosphere, same pressure etc.. no volcanic eruption or anything) to remain the same as now.
