What is the legacy of the Beatles?

For those of us who grew up in the `60s, the Beatles were a constant presence. For example, the song Yesterday set records for how many times it was recorded. There was the term Beatlemania. I was not a rabid fan, but I very much enjoyed listening to their music.

Now you rarely hear Beatles songs. Music is dominated by rap. I listened to Terry Gross interviewing Paul McCartney. It was kind of insipid. There was little mention of the nature of the music.

Did the Beatles have any lasting impact?
