Did you enjoy your time in high school?

Did you enjoy high school and your teenage years? What were you like as a teenager?

My daughter is presently in 11th grade and she seems to enjoy going to school, and other parents tell me I should be appreciate that my daughter comes home and tells me all about her day. The other moms tell me their kids don’t do that.

I wish she were more interested in after-school clubs and activities, which kids need for college. She’s in the clubs but it’s like pulling teeth to get her to attend them and be involved.

I was talking to my hair stylist today and she said she hated high school and she has no fond memories of it. I would describe my high school experience as “meh.” I was more into friends that weren’t in my school, so as far as school went, I showed up and had a few friends there and that was about it. I was an underachiever, so not particularlly studious.

Outside of school, I used to take the train the the city (NYC) by myself or with friends, and we’d hang out in the Village, see concerts (The Ramones was one we saw multiple times), go to my friends’ houses and we’d just hang out, listen to records, talk about cute boys, maybe take a walk to a local deli or a diner for a soda or something. I liked all kinds of music – everything from New Wave to disco to rock to R&B.
