How long does is it normal for it to hurt after a wisdom tooth extraction?

I had a pretty bad infection for a week, and then got my wisdom tooth taken out. For days I couldn’t sleep and I’m currently living on Vicodin and other painkillers. I’d love to stop taking the painkillers sometime soon. How long did it hurt for you?
