What side should i choose?

my student union (which shall be referred to as the dsu from now on) is an accredited company, and they havent been publicly publishing their financial statements, which is against the federal law (i live in canada) and against the dsu constitution. it is suspected that the executives from previous semesters who still have some control are/were embezzling money. I write for the newspaper, which completely butchered the dsu in this issue. a general assembly is scheduled soon, but at a really obscure time, which has also been criticized. i didnt write any of the articles that discuss these issues, but i am distribution manager, and ive been giving out papers to the students. therefore, i hold some sort of responsibility for the news. ’

so, one of my good friends, and many other friends who arent as close, are on the dsu. most of them were just elected last month, and are very nervous about whats going on. the problem is mainly about previous years’ executives. i want to keep my friends on the dsu, but i feel that i will be criticized among my newspaper friends. and to make it worse, im currently running for distribution manager for next semester, so i cant screw up as much.

my friend on the dsu was feeling really bad, and felt like our friendship is at risk, but i try to ensure her that its not. she was so emotional that she cried, and she has a VERY tough personality. the editor in chief is extremely devoted to this movement and has struggled day and night to make sure that people vote at general assemblies, sign petitions, etc… i dont want her work to be a waste. without distribution of the newspaper, her voice will be very quiet and almost non-existent. after all the work that she put in, i dont want it all to be a waste of time.

i realize that business is business and its not personal, but im not sure if my friend on the dsu understands that.
