What can you tell me about post-impressionists and post-impressionism?

Anyone can go look these things up in Wiki or elsewhere. I’m not interested in that. I’m interested, if you will, in your impression of post-impressionism.

I’m pretty familiar with impressionism, but I don’t feel like I know anything about post-impressionism. I don’t know who the artists are, for example. Perhaps if I did, I would have a better idea of what is going on. I don’t know the philosophy that unites post-impressionists. I don’t know the dates where they were active.

If you’ve ever met or worked with any of these artists, tell all! What did you do? What was your relationship to the artist? What was it like working with them? What was this artist’s philosophy?

For bonus points, can you tell me what the current era of art is called?
