Your code name and others?

So my cousin is in the Canadian army right, and he told me that they use numbers for code names. Why do the Americans use like animal names, the Russians and other European armies use names of flowers, and the Canadians use numbers?

Also, what would your code name be and why? Mine is 007 because I love Sean Connery.
