Who's Your Programming Hero?

Asked by makemo (531points) November 29th, 2008

I’ll start:

Allan Odgaard, creator of TextMate (a text editor for programming). I’m not picking him because I like TextMate, but because I’m fascinated by his video presentations of the features in TextMate, where he often end up in (as it appears to me) heavy duty programming sessions, as opposed to commence simple rundowns of underlying logics behind each featureā€”a true sign of a passionate programmer to me. Here’s an example video, that just makes me sit and stare with envy at his solid skills, experience and rapid thinking (irregardless of the fact that it seems he was in a state of flu when recording this video).

I think he’s definitely above par. But I’m not by a long shot anywhere near a programmer personality myself, so I wouldn’t know how he compares to others. And of course, there are different programmer minds for different tasks.

But without any deep analysis of the whos and whys: who’s your personal programming hero/guru?

Hoping to see a list of the guys and girls who impress you the most with what they know and accomplish in the programming world.
