What does a shoe box outside of guy's door mean?

I spent the night with a guy that I just met (nothing intimate happened). This is a military guy that has his “buddies live nearby. When I awoke in the morning to leave – outside his door was a shoe box. I told him there was a shoe box outside his door and he said he had placed it there. Does this mean something or am I just imagining – or is this guy just weird?
