Tips for roadtrippting by myself?

None of my friends are interested in going on some day trips with me to a few different small towns about 2–3 hours away. I was thinking about doing it myself, but wanted to know if anyone had any tips/advice to make my road trips safer, more efficient, etc. Thanks.
