Do pay stations have sensors that empty you meter time when you leave?

The city of LA recently installed pay stations on a commercial street in my neighborhood. They collect money and have an electronic timer time your stay. (It sucks because we have to pay on Sundays now:(. Anyway, does anyone know if these new ‘paystations’ have sensors that detect when you back out, and then erase the extra time you put in the meter?
