How much swearing is acceptable?

I just made a post and I really wanted to swear in it. I felt it was appropriate considering what I was discussing and the emotion I wanted to inject however I refrained as I’m not sure how this is viewed by the community or even worse the mods (as I certainly wouldn’t want to get my opinions censored for something so simple).

I have seen the occasional swear word on Fluther but how much is allowable, presumbaly excessive swearing and certain words will get an instant modding?

Also, what does it do to your perception of the individual if they use profanities to get their point across (not to insult anyone but to inflect deeper emotion)?
