Why did/do you color your hair odd colors and wear really odd clothes?

Or, for that matter, get like 100 visible piercings and who knows how many of the other kind?

Obviously, it calls attention to you, but did you want people to stare, or just look surreptitiously? Was it kind of a “see, I can get attention, too” anti standard beauty thing? Did you actually turn around and get annoyed by the attention? Did you just think it expressed your creativity? What?

So what did it feel like, walking in public, looking like a flashing neon sign?
