What is your opinion on my perspective of love?

Asked by Elumas (3170points) January 22nd, 2009

This is from a blog post I did yesterday. I just wanted your opinion:

Those who know me know that I say “I love you” a lot. At the end of conversations. At the beginning of conversations, sometimes right in the middle of conversations. Fact is I love, love. It’s such a great feeling. One of the downsides though is that people misunderstand my love for them as “Whoa, love, that’s awkward…..” I just wanted to clarify my belief in love.
Now I don’t know who’s reading this, whether you’re a Christian, Jew, Muslim, Atheist or whatever else. This is my view on love, what I believe is the truth, take it how you see it, I won’t judge you for it. I’m going to go ahead and quote scripture here for you:

(4) Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. (5) It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. (6) Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. (7) It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. (1 Corinthians 13:4)

You’ve probably heard this verse before, at weddings and other lovey dovey occasions, so had I. It wasn’t until tonight that I realized what that really means.
It means that when I say I love you I’m really making a promise to be patient with you, no matter how long something takes. It means that I’m going to try my best to be kind and gentle and treat you with respect. And I will not be jealous of you, but celebrate when you win and when I don’t. I won’t build myself up by tearing you down. I will not be prideful and look down on you. I will never be rude or treat you wrong. I will not seek my own goals when I can be seeking yours. I will try my best not to be angry when you hurt me. I will never bring up past mistakes and use them against you. I will not be happy when you are hurt or overcome by the world, but do my best to bring you back to happiness and the truth. I will always protect you, I will always trust you no matter what you’ve done in the past, I will always hope, and I will always work to have our love endure.

Love,
Thomas
