Can you dance?

Asked by LostInParadise (31925points) February 5th, 2009

I find that most people can’t. I took ballroom dance lessons for several years and was not making any progress in being able to lead a partner.

The moment of epiphany occurred when I took a class in Aikido. The Japanese term ki and Chinese term chi (as in Tai Chi) means something like soul and is located an inch or two below the belly button.

In Aikdio class we were taught that the ki is the source of all force and movement. This sounded silly at first, but after a while it started to make sense. The more I concentrated on the ki as the force originator, the more smoothly I was able to move. When I applied the idea to ballroom dancing, I was suddenly able to lead and made the leap from abysmal to mediocre.

To redirect the focus from me, in addition to discussing your dance ability, have you ever had a sudden moment of enlightenment that had some impact on your life?
